Trip Overview
Cruise the Mighty Mississippi and explore charming locations the American South has to offer on this 7-night cruise aboard American Queen Voyages’ American Queen. Enjoy an included 1-night stay in Memphis before embarking on a journey to Louisiana. Come and join the fun!
Bask in the springtime sun and visit historical landmarks in Terrene Landing and Vicksburg. Walk the streets of Natchez, Mississippi’s oldest city, and explore the Museum of African American History and Culture. Slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet of small town living in St. Francisville where the moss-draped oak trees and beautiful gardens are sure to provide picturesque views. Meet your trip scholar
Dr. John Glen is a former history professor at Principia College and beloved lecturer for Principia Lifelong Learning programs. In 1999, Dr. Glen received his PhD from Saint Louis University, with his dissertation focused on the Pearl Harbor air raid. In 2009, Dr. Glen became the Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences at St. Louis Community College, overseeing the departments of foreign languages, philosophy, psychology, political science, sociology, and history.
Dr. Glen has written extensively on the Civil War, with works including Journalistic Impedimentia, Sherman and the Press, and Lincoln and Self Emancipation, as well as numerous book reviews and two articles on Hawaiian history awaiting publication. Dr. Glen’s most current book is American Armageddon, which examines six battles in Vietnam and how their consequences led America inexorably deeper and deeper into that conflict.
Dr. Glen has been an instructor numerous times for Principia Summer Session, and his wife, Dorsie, was Dean of Students at Principia College from 2009–2015.
